£1.2m Grants to Non-masonic charities -

Metropolitan Grand Lodge and Central Masonic Charities announced today that they have so far this year provided over £1.2 million in grants to non-Masonic organisations.

Some of the grants awarded across England and Wales were:

Alzheimer's Research UK's study, which has been awarded £181,723 since 2011, has this year successfully developed a blood test that could predict whether someone with early memory problems will develop Alzheimer's within a year.

University of Leicester has received over £3,000 to fund clinical trials for their new treatment predicted to reduce the damage to the heart after a heart attack.

Fight for Sight has received £91,500 to fund research which could restore vision for thousands of patients who are affected by Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

AT Society have been granted £49,695 for a two year study which will explore routes to potential cures for Ataxia-Telangiectasia or A-T, a rare and complex genetic disorder in children.

Cancer Research UK received £200,000 to fund cutting edge research essential to improve the 4% survival rate for people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The Lord Mayor's Appeal has been provided with £50,000 to get disadvantaged young people engaged in programmes which protect vulnerable environments and build resilient communities.

Wide Horizons was awarded £9,411 to part-fund a skills programme for young people designed to re-integrate them into school, college or employment.

Envision, a youth social action charity that empowers young people to create positive change, received £25,000 for their community project in Bristol.

Cerebra warmly welcomed a donation of £12,000 to support the Cerebra's Sleep Service which, improves the lives of children and their families living with a neurological condition.

Red Balloon Learner Centres received £25,000 for severely bullied children. The charity aims to re-build resilience before the children return to mainstream school.

Air ambulance services have received more than £1.5 million in support since 2007, including this year's grant of £192,000.

WellChild has received a grant of £15,000 to support its Helping Hands project which encourages teams of volunteers from local companies and organisations to tackle essential home and garden projects for disadvantaged children.

The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home's occupational therapy department has been awarded £60,000 towards their rehabilitation services for disabled veterans.

Coram Voice were awarded a grant of over £10,000 for their specialist advocacy work with young care leavers . The grant will fund advice services and ensure that they understand their rights and entitlements.

The Children's Trust supports thousands of children with brain injuries every year and have received £13,000 for their Brain Injury Hub.
